At the beginning of the game, most characters have a job.
Employment opens up opportunities for generating passive income in the future:
Getting a Raise
To get a raise, you have to attend a Job Training seminar. Your salary will grow by 20-25%.
Starting as a salesperson, you can get promoted to a merchandiser and then to a store manager, and even further as a general manager. For promotional opportunities, you have to take a Leadership seminar, get another education, or form necessary connections.
Getting an Employer Tuition Assistance
As an employee, you can get an education for 50% of its price. Your company will pay for another half. A successful company is always interested in your development.
Promotion & Demotion
On a “New Month” square, you can finally get promoted. This means having fewer working hours and a higher income.
- Drag your hourly rate into Income
- Drag your income tax into Expenses
- Drag your working hours into Time Flow
On a “New Month” square, you can also get fired. You cannot influence the decisions of your boss. For a few months after, you will receive multiple job offerings from the same field. If you accept the offer, you may have to return to a lower position.
You can also decide to quit your job. It will save you a lot of time and let you focus on more profitable ventures.
To quit, click on your job title in the Balance Sheet:
- Cross your hourly rate off Income
- Cross the income tax off Expenses
- Cross the amount of time you spent on your job off Time Flow.
You'll be able to quit a lower-rank job without notice and any consequences. The higher your position is, the more mutual obligations there are between your employer and you:
- If you were fired, your employer is obligated to pay you compensation.
- If you quit, you will be charged a penalty.
Employment provides you a steady income. If you make some effort, you can get a raise or even get promoted. Despite that, you’re still not your own boss; you can get demoted or even fired. In addition to that, employment takes up a lot of time, closing off more prospective opportunities for making money.
Working for someone can help you save up some seed money, take a couple of training courses, and eventually start your own business and/or invest.
